If you are thinking of the DSG ( or S-Tronic now ) transmission, it is the one in Audi and VW and it runs on two clutches, not really two transmissions. It works by running odd gears on one clutch and even gears on the other. It was used in the VW R32, VW Passat/Eos, several Audis such as TT and the A3.
It's basically a 'sporty' automated transmission that technically isn't an automatic, and it works very vell for fast shifts and accurate downshift timing.
