daddy_ asked:

In my understanding there are two models of hindustan motors- ambassador classic and ambassador grand.Could you tell me the difference between the Classic and the Grand?I know that the Ambassador is based on the 1948 Morris Oxford, but then what is the origin of the Grand?I noticed that many of the police cars and cars with government plates were the Ambassadors. Is there any national policy behind it in india?

thanks

  1. Pria Says:

The Hindustan Ambassador is a model of car manufactured by Hindustan Motors of India. It has been in production since 1957 and is based on the Morris Oxford model first made by the Morris Motor Company at Cowley, Oxford in the United Kingdom.

The Ambassador or Amby was the first car manufactured in India.

The Ambassador was once considered as India’s national car as it was suited to India’s harsh terrain. The car at that point was quite an innovation with a semi-monocoque chassis, which is why it is spacious inside. There’s no national policy as such.

Just refer these links to know the difference between the Classic and Grand models. Grand is an improvised model of the Classic Ambassador. Grand has been decked up with 137 design improvements.

    Hope this helps !
