My daughter is 16 and my husband and I are going to get her a car. But we don’t know which. These are our choices:
Toyota Yaris
Audi A4 or TT
Lexus IS
BMW 3 series sedan
Mazda 6
None of these are over $40K. But since she is our only 16 year old and our oldest is NOT getting a car no matter what we don’t care about the price. Which do you think is best, or do you have any other suggestions?

The Mazda 6. Good car, not too flashy, low insurance, good gas mileage.
I have a Mazda 3…I love that car.

I love my vauxhal astra!!! It may run like a donkey but I love it and the joy of having a crap car is if you get in a scrape you will come out best
But if you want waste your valuable cash at this time when the economy is so bad, then I would get anything that is convertable, a mazda MX 5?

I don’t think a 16 year old deserves a car, unless she pays for it herself or helps pay for it. Every person I’ve known who got a car as a gift when they were a teenager grew up to be an asshole. Don’t turn your daughter into an asshole. A Lexus, BMW? Let her grow up and earn her own Lexus or BMW.

Get her a Toyota or Mazda. You don’t want to give her a Lexus or an Audi or a BMW because she will get robbed and the Car will get stolen. A lot of teens her age don’t even have high priced cars. Not to mention 16 year olds are careless and stupid.

I personally don’t think she needs a Audi A4 or TT, Lexus IS, or a BMW 3 Series; regardless of if you (or she) can afford it or not. I think that she needs to understand the responsibilities of owning a car (maintaining it, car note/insurance, and registration fees). I think you should get her the Mazda 6 (which is still a little fancy, but suitable) or the Toyota Yaris. In which I personally (if I where her mother) would give her the options of
A. Maintaining an A-B average in order to keep her driving privileges
B. Get a job so that she can either assist with paying the car note, or pay it in full herself.
I’m not trying to tell you how to raise your child (because I’m sure she’s a good girl if you’re willing to purchase such quality cars). But since you asked for our opinions, I would say either the Toyota or Mazda.

They’re all excellent choices, but you need to go with the one she will be least likely to speed in…a friend of mine left her Mercedes to her son, but the car had an enormous speed potential and his grandmother decided it was far too tempting for him not to speed in ti so she bought him a Volvo Wagon instead.

I Like the Audi TT.

My favourite is without a doubt the Yaris. It has the best fuel economy and, in my opinion, the best look.

As a Professional working Automotive Technician for 35 years, there is only one car on your list I would even consider… Lexus.
Aside from your list: for a first time driver, I would start with a Cheap used car… its gonna go thru hell and back for the first few months. I’d opt for a Pontiac Bonneville/Buick Le Sabre, because they are utilizing a proven engine/transaxle that are almost bulletproof and any parts are relatively cheap. Then in six months if you wish to upgrade to a newer car you can probably recoup the money spent to buy the car as a trade-in.

I would say a chevy cavalier is a nice car for a 16 year old. I have one and they are good on gas and reliable. They aren’t expensive either

Do not buy her a car. If you must, decide that she should earn it at least earn 3K by working. match her dollar for dollar. Teen car accidents are horrible. Avoid the risk and do not let her drive on her own until 18. Too many get killed or injured.
