What is the best car to buy and fix up?

car
dudewheresmygrl asked:

I’m planning to buy a used car for under $3000. I would like a car that has a pretty fast acceleration rate, rear wheel drive, easy to fix up / tune up, looks nice, any ideas?

this is my opinion since i owned one
95-99 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSt or GSX only
    GST is turbo only
GSX is turbo and all wheel drive
    they look good
    take off nice
    and aren’t too expensive
look for nissan 240sx and 300zx
honda civics and preludes are cool

Third generation Camaro’s and Firebirds can be found in the condition you want for that kind of money. That’s 1982-1992 And there are plenty of parts available for them

get a 4th gen maxima theres a lof of things you can do with them and the nissan engines are very reliable

there’s only a few cars that are still rear wheel drive that come to mind… mustangs, camaros, and some high end expensive cars… the older toyota supra was but good luck finding one…. the 2nd gen eclipses are junk! the 350z is rwd but probably out of your price range… 3000 gt is an older front wheel drive sporty car….not sure on the price tho… the possibilities are pretty much endless…

A good old Mercedes. they actually last a while too. Like a 88 Mercedes E320 or something. You can get 500,000 miles on those things. Get one with 2 or 3 hundred thousand and pimp it out on the inside if you want.

Bear in mind, Mercedes was not the company it is now. It used to be for the rich ONLY. They have more choices now. So the 1988 Mercedes will have features some dumb Honda or Toyota will not have and its Just as reliable. Better acceleration and nicer looking.

Get a late model Nissan 240sx. I had one in college. It is a great cheap car with tons of aftermarket support and tons of used parts since so many sit in junkyards now.

The 95+ (S14) are expensive because of rarity.

Stick with a 94 and older to stay under $3000.

IMHO the fastback is the best model. Fold the rear seat down and you have a minitruck of sorts for hauling large cargo.
