If the numbers are in km/h, it’s okay. If the numbers are in miles, prepare a graveyard for the car then. 65km/h (or 40mph) for a car to withstand 3rd gear is like total madness, because at this speed I’m already using 5th gear. You car will experience overheat and the grinding will happen, wearing and “killing” your engine.
She may be doing that because ‘premier’ older cars have only 3 gears and one reverse. Time for you to convince her that there’s a 4th gear… Lacieles

I don’t think the “me” guy really knows what they r talking about. but driving like that will wear your engine out quicker. you run the risk of spinning a crank bearing, and that is never good. I would try to tell her to shift earlier but thats just me. rednissanGT-R

well she will waste gas that’s for sure.

technically it will last not as long because revving the engine at high rpms will cause it to wear more than if you were driving at lower rpms. unplugged-Pro-Peace

Yea, I would say you do somewhat. One fact is that by driving the car this way, the clutch plate will eventually wear much sooner. The slave cyclinder will probably break which usually causes slippage while excellerating. In order for a car to give you it’s maximum performance, she really ought too drive it properly to save money for possible future bills. Now, if your descending down a hill, it ’s perfectly okay to start off in 2nd gear, but that’s the only time. The wear and tear on the shift cable it self will eventually give way, and most places that fix this type of work want an arm and a leg if you know what I mean. me

maybe she dont need fourth gear
maybe she dont have a fourth gear
maybe she dont know how to drive
and yes most likely will damage motor or transmission pretty good place to start yes
