I was thinking what Kevin wrote. If you wont understand the answer, don't ask anything.

Just give compliments on beauty, quality and stuff like that.

Ask what type of exhaust the car has? Is it a stock engine? Who did the paint job? Who did the interior work? How long did it take to restore it or is it original? How much horsepower does it have? If you don't mind me asking, how much do you have invested in this car?

Don't worry too much about sounding stupid. Everyone has to start somewhere learning about this stuff. Good luck.

Want to impress someone with your car knowledge? Be honest about it. The thing that turns me off to someone asking questions about a car is them asking an obscure question without the knowledge to understand the answer. or stating facts or little tid bits without understanding the reason behind them. A few things that are most common are boost, this term gets thrown around like a baseball, "i got 14 lbs of boost" It is a conditional number (just kink the exhaust on a charged car, the boost will shoot through the roof, but it doesn't mean you'll get more power), pressure ratio is a better measure of forced induction. So to make the long short, just be honest about your knowledge, and if you have a genuine interest in cars then be a good listener. Before long you will easily impress those around you, and as an added bonus they wont be thinking "oh crap its her again"
