Two cars start traveling toward each other at the same time from positions 480 kilometers apart?
Sabrina asked:
Two cars start traveling directly toward each other at the same time from positions 480 kilometers apart. They meet after 4 hrs. If one car travels 40km per hour (kph) faster than the other car, find the speed of each car?

Let AB = 480 kms and car P starts from A & car Q starts from B.
Let at point M both car meet, so
AM = 4v…………(v is the speed of car P)
BM = 4(v + 40)…………(v+40 is the speed of car Q
As AM + MB = 480,
4v + 4(v + 40) = 480
8v + 160 = 480
8v = 320
v = 40,,,,,,,,,Speed of car P
v + 40 = 40 + 40 = 80…….Speed of car Q
