When I pull start my nitro RC car, the wheels immediately start spinning, is this normal?

I have to hold the brakes on the transmitter so the car doesn’t move, as soon as I release the brakes the car takes off, not very quickly like but moves forward nonetheless. I’m not sure what might need to be done, any help you provide will be greatly appreciated.
