Favoured asked: I know watts are a measure of work being done. How much wattage is required to move a 3000 lb automobile from a stop to 60 miles per hour. I’d like to know how to calculate this myself, so please show the formula you’d use to come up with the answer. I’m curious to know how significant a 250W solar collector on the roof of my hybrid car would be.

HUSSAIN H asked: The wife of an engineering professor filled up her car’s gas tank, reset the fuel economy calculator to zero, and then drove the hybrid electric car 82 miles. During her trips, she obtained 37.2 miles per gallon performance out of the car. The professor drove the car an additional 8 miles, averaging 51 miles per gallon during his trips. What would be the overall miles per gallon their car would report for the total driving done since they reset the fuel economy calculator?

I drive a big suv and would have been begging my husband for years to get me a “veggie”. I have three children I haul everywhere so it has to be at least 4 doors, don’t want the expense of a new/hybrid car. What are the pros/cons of buying on older diesel car like a mercedes and converting it to run on vegetable oil?

Freshman Sam asked:
To settle an argument with a friend, I’m trying to find some valid sources for showing the positive (and negative, I suppose) effects on the environment of hybrid cars. Most of the info I find is from hybrid car or manufacturing websites - which my friend will take as biased - or from websites that blast into hybrid cars as my friend is doing. I’m looking for something unbiased and researched (and preferably online because that’s the only way I’ll get my friend to read it). Thanks if you can point me to any good sources!
