Could running a car without a plug wire attached cause the catalytic converter to become clogged?

My 95 Honda accord was running like crap and back firing. I had to be somewhere important. Now all 4 plugs are black, dry and sooty. Car will start then immediately stall. Do you think i killed the catalytic converter by driving half an hour like this. If yes are they difficult to install?
