What would cause a car to temporarily die when putting extra load momentarily on electrical system?

The car is a 97′ Saturn SC2. The problem was possibly fixed (hasn’t happened for a while) by taking off and putting back on the already tight battery connectors. It always happened when pressing the brake or at random. Everything in the car would die, the engine, dashboard, 4-ways, everything. Power would normally come back in 2-3 seconds to a minute.
