Double Dutch asked: I couldn’t start my car today, so I got a jump and was able to get home ok. Should I look into replacing my battery, or should it be good for a while longer? I got a new battery about three years ago, and I’d estimate I’ve driven about 40,000 miles since then. I realize I should probably know this, but I’m not exactly car savvy and it’s been a while since I last needed a jump. :o)

Trystan Owen asked: I’m not sure what to do with the negative wire. The instructions say to put it on a metal piece of the inside of the engine to ground it. But the instrutionsa also say that if the battery is not in the car to use a long wire and connect the negative to that wire? I’m confused. Can’t I just put the negative on the negative of the battery directly?

Alex asked: I am trying to jump start my car, however the terminals on the battery are covered by a volt gauge and I don’t want to take the battery out or take it to a shop to have it done? I see on the side what looks to be side “terminals” per say but i don’t know what i need to try it through the side.
Also i know I can jump my car through the cigarette lighter but i tried it three times as instructed nothing happened. Also I know the battery is still good.

Gabby asked: We have put a charger on the car and the charge holds while the car is off. But when driving the car the battery drains in less than an hour. The alternator has been tested and shows to be good. The new battery has been tested and shows to be good. The head connectors for the battery have been changed. The problem is still occurring. What could the problem be?

Alan C asked: I drive a 92 protege. I was giving a standard driving lesson, when, after a stall, the car wouldn’t start again. The battery was not holding a full charge, so I replaced it and the posts. I now get a much louder clicking sound, but the car still won’t start. I have successfully push-started the car, and checked the fuses. The car is old, but was running fine before the lesson, and gave no indication of trouble to come. Is the starter the only possibility, or does anyone know of another possible explanation?

DevilWoman27 asked: I have an ‘07 Mustang I bought new. It has less than 27,000 miles on it. I’ve been informed that it needs a new battery, but it seems like this NEW battery in a NEW car didn’t last very long. I’ve bought used cars with the original battery that lasted longer - a 3 yrs old car with over 70,000 miles on it, drove for 2 more years on the original battery. So how long SHOULD a car battery last?
Thank You for your answers - glad I bought that extended warrenty!

Kaytee asked: My car battery is fully charged, but not charging anymore (faulty alternator - long story). In two days I am driving it to the mechanic to fix the alternator. I wanna know whether I can use the car meanwhile without risking to drain the battery?

Scott asked: I recently changed my car battery because my battery kept dying after multiple jumps, and there was nothing else wrong with the car besides the battery before the change, but now my car continually jerks and the rpms are way too high. What do I do to fix it?

JDjoduJD asked: Situation: I want to add another car battery to power my electronics in my car.
Question:
1. How do I charge it to full capacity at home?
2. How should I wire the battery so the car will charge my battery when the car is on?
3. Can I use a voltmeter to measure the capacity of the battery?

Jordan D asked:
I need to use a car central locking mechanism for something other than a car and require a power source smaller than a car battery. Any ideas?
