I had one that was not cheap and one day I came into the parking lot and it was trying to start the car by itself.

Even the pricey ones can fail. I would think the cheap ones are even worse. Will it work with your car alarm? Will it work if you have the car valet parked? Does it come with a decent warranty? Does it come with a video or complete instructions for YOUR car model [sometimes the generic instructions don't recognize wire color-coding changes made during a production run]? What will you pay to install it (or are you qualified to install it yourself)? Think about that before you get one and maybe save yourself some grief.

I don't have alot of experiance in remote starters but I'll tell you what I know. It shoulden't hurt your car persay but depending on the wires you get and how much amperage and voltage it takes it could drian your battery. as for computor damage I have no idea.
