Even the pricey ones can fail. I would think the cheap ones are even worse. Will it work with your car alarm? Will it work if you have the car valet parked? Does it come with a decent warranty? Does it come with a video or complete instructions for YOUR car model [sometimes the generic instructions don't recognize wire color-coding changes made during a production run]? What will you pay to install it (or are you qualified to install it yourself)? Think about that before you get one and maybe save yourself some grief. It shoulden't hurt your car persay but depending on the wires you get and how much amperage and voltage it takes it could drian your battery. as for computor damage I have no idea.
