It is better for the charity to sell the car for whatever they can get for it and use the money collectively. What if one guy gets a Cadillac and another gets a Hyundai? The majority of the people in need of vehicles do not have a valid drivers license . It is a Great Program to the poor who can not afford vehicles, but then this company needs to realize that the vehicles need Car Insurance. It is not just to give vehicles away, but the responsibility that goes with this. I would and have donated my old cars to people who are so poor they can't afford to purchase even a cheap vehicle. I know all about that. Then come to find out , they could not purchase insurance, drivers license , and vehicle registrations. So the cars I donated just sat there without my knowledge of the problem and before long the city comes and tows the vehicle away. Last one I donated, was crushed in a junk yard. So if this company you are speaking about does this , which is Great ! But they need to follow up and make sure these junkie old cars are not a burden for the poor people. I have also heard of people using the situation for the poor to fill their own pockets. It's called the Rawhide boys club. It takes your old cars as a donation, tax deductible of course, refurbishes them, and sells them to obtain money to raise the troubled youth that fix the cars.
