 BUT if you just want to mess around and won't drive the system very hard, you might look into an AC to DC converter.  Make VERY sure the amps are right and won't burn your equipment.  
 Here's info from the powerStream site: "...Description : An innovative product to suit any 12 volt DC products use anywhere in the world. It has a high efficiency and is light and compact. It operates most 12-14V DC equipment from 90-240 Volt AC Power Outlet ideal for home use of coolers and other car equipment up to 4.0 AMP. Special Features : - 4.0 AMP constant ." ...etc. 
 They're talking about a 50 watt driver which probably won't do much. It only cost $25 or so.  Maybe Radio Shack has similar stuff. 
 Then you have to use thin, quality wiring which won't soak up all the juice.  It'll look, and probably sound, like crap.</description>
