How many cars will the military pay for mileage on a PCS move?
Tiger asked:
We have 2 cars, will we get mileage for both cars? We found out recently that our cars can’t be towed.
We have a ford explorer, can’t be towed for some reson not sure why.

well I know on your 1st PCS move TMO will pack and move everything for free. It should include any POV’s you may have. if they give you BS answers you gotta hassle the heck out of them. that’s the Marines anyways, IDK but i think it’s the same in every branch.

2 cars, if you are married. The first car will be like .25 a mile, the second .15 a mile.

i believe what you are saying is that you can’t get the money for the cars if they are towed. so if you tow a car, you don’t get the mileage for it. so what, you aren’t driving it so you should not get the money. it you want to get the money for it…. drive them both. but if you just want to scam the government out of the money, maybe you should ask legal about that question.
but i believe the military only pays for one car.

You will get mileage for both vehicles of .29 per mile, limit of 350 miles per day. the rate went up July 1, 2008
The person that said they will ship both POV is wrong the only time they will authorize and pay for 1 POV to be shipped is when it is OCONUS orders. There is a possibility of getting a 2nd POV shipped when in CONUS but only when it is cheaper for the government to pay for the shipment than it is to pay out MALT and Per Diem.

One only!
why can’t you get it towed?
Another option, find a company that will truck your car from point A to point B!
AAFES should have the information.

The amount of items (and weight) is based on pay grade. Check with your housegold goods office to get details.

2 POVs as long as they are driven. can’t tow one behind the other and get paid for both.

As you can see there are a lot of different replies. The truth is, the answer to this can vary…from your orders, to where you are going, to rank, to budgetting issues for the unit paying for the move. The only way to get a truely accurate answer is to talk to whomever is co-ordinating your PCS. They can tell you what is or isn’t allowed.
As for a car not able to be towed..most newer cars must be placed on flat beds and moved that way instead of with tow trucks.
