How do you keep a dog from attacking cars?
greygal13 asked:
I have a chihuahua/pomerainion and he thinks he’s as big as a great dane, so he thinks he can overpower anything! He loves riding in cars, he’s ok with some cars when they stop and he gets to sniff them. But when any car drives by, he starts slinking toward it, then pounces and barks madly. I don’t want him to get hurt, help!!

Hiring a school bus will not resolve this.
You are the problem.
Not the cars, and not your dog.

Keep him out of the street… if he don’t see the car ha can’t attack the car.

my dogs have chased after motorcycles when they drive by my house. so my mom has someone she knows with a motorcycle drive by while we’re watching our dog outside. if she goes for it, my mom yells at her and makes her go inside to her kennel. punishing them and making them know that they’ve done wrong will help teach them to stop.

I’ve used loud noises as a way to detour unwanted behavior. The best that has worked for me indoors is a small coffee can with change (pennies and quarters). Once they look they are about to engage in that behavior you shake the can (close enough to startle them). Outdoors I don’t know if it would work, but maybe one of those fog/blow horn things…when he gets into the “slink” positions press the button and blow the horn just enough to startle him out of that position and distract him from the car.

Uh…keep him on a leash or this problem will quickly resolve itself with your dog being flattened.

Why is your dog loose where he can chase cars?
Keep your dog on a leash or in an enclosed fenced area - like a responsible pet owner does.
If you let this go on you’ll have one flat Pup. Don’t you care that he can be killed by a car?

Your canid friend has the wolf version of small man’s disease. Ask your vet for the number of a reputable animal behaviourist, you need help establishing yourself as the alpha in your pack.
The dog knows he is NOT big so he is probably in constant state of fear aggression. Many male dogs have difficulty in relinquishing power to a female human, I have worked with my Mum’s labmix for over ten years and still occaisionly he forgets pack protocol.
Good luck, Poms are a particular fav of mine, so bouncy and full of life. Remember, opposable thumb and driver’s license equals LEADER of the PACK.
