Try getting him into flyball, agility, and/or herding. This will stimulate his brain, and also get him the excercise he needs. As for the pulling, using a gentle leader or a halti to stop the pulling. If he is only pulling at cars on walks, where he is restrained, dont worry to much, I would say that the chances are pretty slim that the collar or leash will break. No choke chains - they can damage the esophagus if a dog pulls too hard.
