model rail roaders have added smoke units to thier layouts for years. i did a quick search at walthers and came up with several emitters. these could be added underneath a display base and piped to your exhaust system quiet easily.

Both suggestions would work (you'd probably need a heat source for the smoke tablets, though). Another possibility: get some dry ice. Cut off a little bit (without touching it -- it will burn your fingers) and put it in some water in a countainer in your car. The water will bubble and emit copious quantities of "smoke." What's more, there will be real CO2 in it . . .

Edit -- Dry ice is easy enough to handle, just have them put it in a box or something and to avoid burns don't touch it with your bare hands -- use tongs or if you must handle it more directly use something to insulate your hands, such as gloves -- it won't keep the cold out for very long but it should be long enough to shave some off or whatever you have to do.

you can purchase little tablets or liquid to go in the car, these tablets would usually be used in model trains.... Head off to a hobbie or model store
