I need a good bit of information on this. It’s hard to find things just through google that aren’t all just other people’s essays.

The auto was a going concern by the 1920’s it was a major means of transportation. It had been invented much ealier, Duryear had one in France in the 1880, Gottleib Daimler and Karl Benz were doing the same thing in GErmany and the Dodge Brothers in detroit were starting to make gas powered vehicles.
I believe you are capable of figuring out the rest. I googled the automobile and got millions of references. Just look through and find what you want. Or try Yahoo or Wikipedia or just try something on your own and don’t give up so easily. J&C H

It helped with so many industries, allowing something called free time to become more available to so many, who didn’t even have one. Oil fueled service industries, manufacturing, gambling and trucking led to an over-inflated economy and when your up too high, you fall very much lower(1929) as the depression followed from the collapsde of the dollars value. The internal combustion engine became smaller so cars could become viable. But the war and the test of industry that followed, led to the moon, and nuclear potential. We are still in an oil dependent economy today. The next century will be centered around human compassion. Or may lead to a repeat of mistakes made, for the sake of greed. Joseph

In ‘Driving Like Crazy’ p.JH. O’Rourke writes:

‘There was no premarital sex in America before the invention of the internal combustion engine. You couldn ‘t sneak a girl into the rec room of your house because your mom and dad were unable to commute so they were home all day working on the farm. And your farmhouse didn’t have a rec room because recreation had not been discovered due to all the farmwork. You could take a girl out in a buggy, but it was hard to get her into the mood to let you bust into her corset because the two of you were seated facing a horse rectum. It spoiled the atmosphere.

Cars let us out of the barn, and, while they were at it, destroyed the American nuclear family. As anyone has who has had an American nuclear family can tell you, this was a relief to all concerned. Cars also caused America to be paved. There are much worse things you can do to a country than pave it, as the Sudanese are proving in Dafur.

Cars fulfilled the ideal of America’s founding fathers. of all the truths we hold self-evident, of all the unalienable rights with which we’re endowed, what’s most important to the Aermican dream? It’s right there, front and centre, in the Declaration of Indpendence: freedom to leave! Founding fathers, can I have the keys?

The car provided Americans with an enviable standard of living. You could not get a steady job with high wages and health and retirement benefits working on the General Livestock Corporation assembly line putting udders on cows.

And upon the fine arts the American car has had a welcome effect. The minute the house lights dim for a symphony, opera or play, we can run out, start the car, and effect a welcome escape. Louise C
