Before you screw up your car and make it totally undrivable… check the key, make sure thats not the part thats worn down, now while trying to turn the key, jiggle it, and if it doesnt seem to want to move at all from the off position, make sure you don’t have the steering wheel lock bound up too tight, (try moving the steering wheel left or right)

Hotwiring a car is illegal unless you own the car or are reposessing it.
Try some of these instructions:
Aslo, look in your bookstore for “the worst case scenario survival guide” (yellow book)

I wouldn’t advise doing this as you are likely to cause more damage than good. Check out AutoZone for a replacement cylinder. It comes with two new keys and costs about $15. (Just a note, you’ll need a steering wheel puller for this, too.)
I had a car that I had to break out the cylinder and ended up starting it with a pair of needle-nose pliers. That was fun. People do look at you kinda funny when you pull out your “key” and attempt to start your car…

This requires busting the ignition lock out of the column. Most of us use a dent puller and “pop” the lock out. There will be a small slot under where the lock used to be, and you insert the screw driver and turn, just like a key. When you get pulled over by the police, make sure you have all your registration, insurance and license with you. Looks suspicious.
