How bad is keeping your car outside in snow compared to in a garage or carport instead?

Cincinnati O asked:

How much worse is it to keep your car parked out in the snow rather than in garage or carport? Is the only difference the pain in scraping it and cleaning it off, or is it actually bad for the car to be in the cold snow like that? Anything i should do to prepare?

Cold itself won’t harm your car, but snow will help it rust out faster and some fluids don’t particularly like freezing, but aside from that the only other issues i can think of is that snow isn’t to wonderful on the paintwork. Freezing and thawing doesn’t help many things, but generally cars are darn durable.

The best way to keep your car is in garage. If you can’t afford it use a cloth on the screen instead.

Wind chill, the temp has nothing to do with the operation of the car. If your in a cold climate like say Minnesota where the temp hits as much as fifty below, put in a radiatorHeaterr to keep the engine block warm for starting, keep a good battery in it. Make sure you have it tuned every fall. You shouldn’t have any problems.
When I lived up North, I had two engine heaters in my autos and trucks I never had a problem. It hit fifty below more then once.
