Although the existing corporate fat cats would suffer, I'm sure other companies would eventually pick up the pieces and rebuild the auto industry. In the end, we'd all be better off. It's too bad politicians can't see the long term problems with bailing out a lemon corporation. The best solution, IMHO, would be for the government to allow the rotten companies to fall apart, and then oversee and possibly subsidize the buyout by other, more responsible companies.
