They realize what they're giving up, but they would rather give up some degree of autonomy rather than declare bankruptcy; bankruptcy would spell the doom of many executives, investors, and the almighty worker unions. Although the existing corporate fat cats would suffer, I'm sure other companies would eventually pick up the pieces and rebuild the auto industry. In the end, we'd all be better off. It's too bad politicians can't see the long term problems with bailing out a lemon corporation. The best solution, IMHO, would be for the government to allow the rotten companies to fall apart, and then oversee and possibly subsidize the buyout by other, more responsible companies. The main goal of this oversight would be to ensure that all the existing jobs stay in America, so that we don't end up with our auto industry shipped overseas. sparkiemark13

Enslavment or extinction?

I know what I'd pick...

Sacrificing your companies existence for free market principles might sound good, but in reality few companies would want to do it, money in the pockets of the employees and bosses.

By the way, the US government loan would probably carry less regulaton than you'd htink, the owners can alos look back, they had a loan form the government before, and came back from the brink, to make profits... Nigel101
