the_man_wearing_black asked: I bought 04 monte carlo a little over a year ago (jan 07) with 38000 miles i just now hit the 10000 mile mark with no problems. Do you believe i got a well cared for car with little to no chance for future problems if i keep on top of maitence?
FOR the smartasses, i the car now has 48000 miles :))

When I accelerate in gears 1-4 I press the gas, the rpm’s shoot way up and the car takes time to speed up. The car acts as if I am in the wrong gear. I can assure you, I am not. It does ok in 4-5 gears when i simply press the gas, but I get on the gas anymore than a slight press, it does the same thing. The rpm’s and the engine rev really high, close to the red zone on the rpm indicator and the car simply doesn’t respond as it should. Again, it feels to me as if I need to downshift, but that isn’t the issue. In 6th gear, the car doesn’t even respond to the gas, just the rpm’s rev up when i press the gas. The car does not accelerate at all. Could this be an issue with my clutch, perhaps some belt or even a simple tune up?
Thanks guys! I was thinking the clutch could be an issue.
I have 50k miles, but almost all city driving.

okay we found out its neither battery or anything its either computer or something. can any of that stop ur engine for starting?

It sounds to me like it’s another way for car dealerships/manufacturers to rip off the American public. What do you think? By the way, I drove my 93 Nissan pathfinder for 135000 miles without changing a timing belt, however, there were other problems.

My mechanic told me to change my oil to fix it. I told him I disagreed, but since it was getting near to being due anyway I went ahead and did it. Still having the same problems. Any help would be appreciated.

When the car sits for about 20 mins. it will start back up and act like nothing ever happend. Also the car heats up when in idle. I have ruled out torque converter.
