Double Dutch asked: I couldn’t start my car today, so I got a jump and was able to get home ok. Should I look into replacing my battery, or should it be good for a while longer? I got a new battery about three years ago, and I’d estimate I’ve driven about 40,000 miles since then. I realize I should probably know this, but I’m not exactly car savvy and it’s been a while since I last needed a jump. :o)

q t asked: My car tires are starting to get worn down on the top part of the tire facing the car. It only does this to the back wheels.. One of my friends said it could be the lower control arm bushings (no idea what the is). Does this sound right? What else could cause this?

Trystan Owen asked: I’m not sure what to do with the negative wire. The instructions say to put it on a metal piece of the inside of the engine to ground it. But the instrutionsa also say that if the battery is not in the car to use a long wire and connect the negative to that wire? I’m confused. Can’t I just put the negative on the negative of the battery directly?

Brittany asked: It’s always been said that you have to warm up your car, otherwise it causes damage and increases wear and tear. What are the specific benefits from warming up your car? What damage occurs when you don’t? Do some cars need to warm up longer than others?
@j-m: So a car’s temp warms up faster by idling - not driving?

Your mom asked: I’m just curious because a person in my apartment building has to fire up his car about 15 times every morning before he feels it’s going to stay running long enough for him to take it out on the road. It dies just about every time after 20 or 30 seconds unless he revs the engine. What’s wrong with the car?

Bort asked: I am writing something that uses a car as a metaphor for a person who is basically out of luck/ hopeless/ damaged goods etc. What are some problems that you might have with a car that would be more expensive to fix than the car is worth?
