If I visit my parents in California, can I legally drive their car if I am not on the insurance policy?

a.renee24 asked: I am getting ready to buy a car very soon. In my state it is required that I show the Dealer “Proof of Insurance” before the purchase can be made. How can I obtain that if this is my first vehicle? What’s the procedure with this?

scheccid2 asked: My car was parked in front of my house, the driver of a Dodge Ram truck passed out and hit my neighbors car which was right behind me. Her car rammed into mine that was rammed into another car parked in front of me. Now that the insurances where notified, what’s going to happen? Will I get any compensation besides getting the repairs paid for?

James asked: Yes I’m under 21, No I don’t have a single ticket , or driving violation . How could insurance on a 500 dollar cherokee cost 290$ a month? In two months thats the value of the car! Its BS there has to be a way to get insurance for cheaper than that. Anybody know of any place? And please don’t say Classic insurance as all of them you have to be 25 or older.

v1etangel asked: My car was in an accident and the insurance company is telling me that the car will be a write off. It is still being financed but I have purchased GAP insurance through my bank when I re-financed the car. I am just curious as to who owns the car or gets possesion of it if the GAP is covering the remaining balance of the loan? I would like to get the car back to sell for scrap in order to raise some money for a down payment towards another car.

Ayman K asked: I am an expact living in The Hague. I am currently 17yrs old. I am planning to learn driving with my dad’s car. I know in other countries such as USA, Canada, you are allowed to drive without a license in the parking lots. In Germany its possible to drive without a license under parental guidance if you are 16. Is it possible to drive car in the parking lots in The Netherlands without any license when they are empty?

jerry M asked: I went to Costa Rica, my car reservation was ~$300, but I ended up paying ~$600, because they have some kind of mandatory local insurance that is very expensive.
Now I am going to Mexico, and I am reading the similar reviews. Some companies ask for written insurance contract from US, other companies tell customers that no out of Mexico insurance ever works in Mexico and they have to purchase it from them.
Any tips how to rent a car without paying a fortune? Is this true that US insurance doesn’t work there? Do I really have to pay for local insurance?
