What is causing more car to make a loud clicking sound whenever it is powered on?

I have a 2002 Ford Explorer and all of the sudden there has been a loud consistent clicking noise coming from the back left side of the car. I opened up the protective cover and the noise is coming from a black plastic box. There are no warning lights that have appeared yet. Should I be conserned?
