Suppose you are considering whether to drive your car or fly 1000 miles to Florida for spring break. Which cost-fixed, variable, or both- would you take into account in making your decision? lisaclara asked: Why after the Cash for Clunkers program are we no longer hearing about the crisis in the automobile industry? Now that this program is over haven’t the sales gone back down to the pre-program levels? I don’t see people lined up at car dealerships waiting to buy and I don’t see that this program will do anything in the long term. With the insignificant improvement in fuel emissions due to this - why doesn’t the media want to report about these things when it used to be a daily occurence?

… asked: The automotive industries are currently begging for a government bail out, that is equivalent to begging someone to enslave you. Don’t they realize they will be indebted so severely to the government that any type of profits they get from them will be so highly regulated as to cut down on production regardless? Do they not read up on “conspiracy theories” or the popularly quoted sayings of the founding fathers, to paraphrase: people love servitude, not only that but they beg for it.
What a bunch of idiots.

Akin B asked: I am aware that it would keep the car gas market from maximizing profits. Since the car gas market has negatively effected other markets in the US, a 1 year price ceiling might not be too bad.
Also this strategy would only work for the short-term.
