Can you throw a newer model car in reverse while going forward at 50mph?

While driving in a late model automatic will the car allow you to throw the shifter in reverse at speeds of 50mph and if so what happens to the car. (I know its nothing good) Same question for the same situation with a stick shift.

good luck getting a stick in reverse at anything over 10. most cars dont even have synchros for reverse like other gears and you have to be completely stopped to get it in. if its an auto its pretty safe to say that its going to be a really bad idea to put it in reverse while going 50
